The Disabled Workers Co-operative

INTRODUCTION

This is my second website, as you will be aware if you have been directed here from my other site,  Mouse on the Move Dance Workshops. If you have come here directly, through a search or from a link, it might be appropriate for me to introduce myself - my name is Alan Martin, I live on Wirral, Merseyside and I am a Dance Workshop Leader. For the past ten years or so, I have been running dance workshops throughout the UK, mostly in schools (Primary & Secondary, Mainstream & Special). Four years ago, I gave up most of my disability benefits to go self-employed and make leading dance workshops my full-time occupation. To the best of my knowledge, I am totally unique as the only dance workshop leader in the UK (perhaps the world?) who uses an electric wheelchair and an electronic communication aid. I also offer Disability Awareness Training and played the part of Graham in the BBC3 six-part comedy series , "I'm With Stupid".

So why have I set up another site?  Well, there are issues relating to my Dance Workshops that I feel I would like to explore more deeply than is really feasible on my original site, which covers a wide range of issues, particularly in regard to their value in educating young people and the practicalities of planning Dance Workshops.

Here you will find the rationale for organising one of my dance workshops in your school or other educational establishment.

I also wanted an opportunity to look at issues surrounding Communication and the chance to offer a discussion Forum, which I hope you will join.

Please note that, due to a random mass attack on the Forum, with inappropriate postings and web sites, I was forced to delete all old posts, purge the membership list and relaunch the Forum. It is now fully functional with added security. Please rejoin and feel free to post new topics.
